JOB PURPOSE:

To provide total patient care to an assigned group of patients within the framework of Fakeeh Care, accreditation standards and Ministry of Health requirements on a 24/7 basis, either day or night shift.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Assess, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework of professional nursing practice and development. 
• Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards.
• Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
• Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions.
• Assesses and cares for the normal newborn immediately after birth.
• Provides assistance with post-partum care including breastfeeding.
• Sets up for deliveries and other procedures, including Emergency C-sections.
• Cleans equipment, forwards same for re-sterilization and helps set up for next case. Coordinate with the maintenance of a clean, safe environment.
• Assists with patient examination.
• After successfully completing relevant competencies may:
  • Apply CTG Monitor.
  • Conduct Phlebotomy.
  • Conduct IV Cannulation.
• Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and rescheduled cases.
• Assists and supports patient during labor and delivery process.
• Documents patients’ medical and clinical information and health assessments in HIS.
• Prepares patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.

• Provides comprehensive, safe and effective evidence-based nursing & midwifery care to achieve identified health outcomes. Promotes healing environment.
• Recognizes and upholds the rights of all patients accessing health services and advocate on their behalf while maintaining cultural sensitivity.
• Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained. Assists in the maintenance of all supplies and equipment and clean-up/ re-set after deliveries and C-Sections.
• Plans and evaluate nursing & midwifery care in consultation with the multidisciplinary health care team and patients and families using effective interpersonal communication.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Refers and co-ordinates the patients’ discharge arrangements with the case manager 
• Provides and facilitates appropriate training and ongoing support to students and less experienced health service staff within the delegated scope of practice, as and when required.
• Directs and supervises less skilled nursing/health care personnel, students and interns and visit patients to ensure that proper care is provided.
• Protects patients and employee by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
• Performs other QI responsibilities as delegated from time to time by the Nurse Manager.
• Upholds quality initiatives that improve ‘customer care’ and enhance the interface between staff, patients and visitors.
• Demonstrates awareness of personnel responsibilities in relation to the maintenance of a clean and safe environment and identification of potential risks for all personnel, patients and visitors, taking action as and when required.
• Shows awareness of the role of the midwife in handling complaints in accordance with Fakeeh care policy.
• Uses critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making within each step of the care process.
• Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment by providing the adequate education and engagement to the patient and family.
• Practices within professional and ethical framework in accordance with the nursing/ midwifery profession’s codes of ethics and conduct.

• Assists in the training and development students, trainees, interns, and participates in the Transition to Practice Programs for fresh graduates.
• Participates in shared-governance, decision-making structures and process that establish standards of practice and address opportunities for improvement.
• Promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing & midwifery care using Professional Practice Model and appropriate care delivery system.
• Provides Exemplary professional practice evidenced by effective and efficient care services, inter-professional collaboration, and high-quality patient outcomes.
• Participates in programs related to evidence-based practices and research programs and integrate evidence-based practice and research into clinical and operational process.
• Creates partnerships with patients and families to establish goals and plans for delivery of patient-centered care.
• Participates recruitment and retention assessment and planning activities.
• Participates in the review, action planning, and evaluation of patient safety data at the unit level.
• Disseminates the organization’s nursing research findings to internal and external audiences.
• Evaluates and use evidence-based findings in their practice.
• Participates in the design and implementation of technology to enhance the patient experience and nursing /midwifery practice.
   

Skills and Abilities:

Manages work pressure and can work in a team effectively.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience as Midwife 

Education:

Diploma in Midwifery

Licenses / Certifications:

License from the country of origin, License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA), BLS, ACLS and other LSTC courses as applicable.
 

COMPETENCIES:
