Job Profile:

The Senior Charge Nurse in Mental Health services is responsible for delivering high-quality, efficient, and effective psychiatric nursing care. This role includes overseeing daily operations, supervising nursing staff, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes. The Senior Charge Nurse ensures the smooth functioning of mental health units while also providing direct care to patients with psychiatric needs.

1. General Responsibilities:

I.    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Leadership:
•    Inpatient and Outpatient Unit Oversight: Provides strategic leadership for both inpatient mental health wards and outpatient clinics. Ensures alignment in care protocols and consistent quality of mental health services across both settings
•    Supervision of Multidisciplinary Teams: Leads a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatric nurses, therapists, social workers, and support staff. Promotes collaboration between inpatient and outpatient teams to ensure continuity of care
•    Workforce Planning and Development: Manages staffing levels for both settings, ensuring that the right mix of skills is available to meet patient needs, including managing on-call rotations and handling staffing challenges unique to mental health care
•    Crisis Management Leadership: Serves as the key leader in managing mental health crises, including psychiatric emergencies in both inpatient and outpatient settings, such as acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, or aggressive behavior
•    Lead and manage nursing staff, ensuring high standards of care are maintained.
•    Coordinate patient care activities, ensuring appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.
•    Serve as a resource and role model for clinical staff, and junior charge nurses providing guidance and support.
•    Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
•    To deputize for Nurse Manager in his/her absence.
•    Provides strategic leadership for the nursing team in multiple ambulatory care units, overseeing complex workflows and patient care processes across various outpatient services.
•    Engages in succession planning and mentoring junior charge nurses to build leadership capacity.

Patient Care Management:
•    Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient care activities.
•    Facilitate effective communication among the healthcare team, patients, and families.
•    Address patient and family concerns promptly and professionally

Job Specifications:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding a BSc Nursing /Diploma of Nursing, not less than 4 years study duration
  • Advanced Degrees (Preferred): A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on mental health or psychiatric nursing is often preferred for leadership roles.
  • Certifications in Mental Health: Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN) from an accredited body (e.g., the American Nurses Credentialing Center or equivalent) is highly valued.
  • Current license in country of origin
  • UAE DHA License 

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of continuous nursing experience in UAE or from home country
  • 3-5 years of experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing, including both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in senior position.
  • Previous overseas experience is advantage but not required

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current RN license from a recognized accredited professional body
  • Has a valid BLS, ACLS certification
